PDO Threads in Bel Air, CA

Aging impacts nearly every part of the body, especially the face. As we age, we lose elasticity and collagen in our skin. This can lead to wrinkles and sagging skin, which can add years to your face.

While the traditional facelift procedure is often the go-to option for those looking to turn back the hands of time, polydioxanone (PDO) threads treatment is just as effective. Known as the non-surgical facelift treatment, PDO threads involve the use of dissolvable surgical sutures to lift and define the face.

Over the last few years, PDO threads have continued to grow in popularity. Results last for 2-3 years and patients can take years off their face without having to undergo any type of surgery.

What is a PDO threads lift?

The PDO threads lift is a non-invasive procedure that improves the appearance of sagging skin in the facial area. It’s highly effective in treating areas that are challenging to treat using fillers.

This treatment lifts the cheeks, jawline, lips, and the eyebrows to create a more youthful, contoured face. If you want an instant non-surgical facelift, this is the procedure for you!

At Onsite MedSpa, we use NovaThreads sutures, which are absorbable surgical sutures made of polydioxanone (PDO). This is a colorless polyester that dissolves in the body within six months through a natural process known as hydrolysis.

When the body senses the sutures in the skin, it stimulates the production of collagen. Collagen, which depletes as we age, is what gives the skin elasticity and structure. Increased collagen levels, especially in the facial area, offers all sorts of benefits, including:

  • Lifted eyebrows
  • Smooth cheeks and mid-face area
  • Lifted jowls
  • Tighter neck

The procedure can even firm up certain areas on the body!

Are PDO sutures safe?

Yes! In fact, polydioxanone has been used for biomedical applications for over 60 years. There are three different types of sutures that can be used, each offering different results.

Twist threads are used to restore volume. Barb threads hook into the skin and provide a subtle lift. Smooth threads stimulate collagen production, which revitalizes and rejuvenates the treatment area.

What happens during a PDO threads lift?

A PDO threads lift is a non-invasive, outpatient procedure. Before the procedure begins, the treatment area is numbed. Then a cannula pre-loaded with PDO threads is inserted into your skin. NovaThreads are then precisely placed in areas with folding or volume loss. They can also in certain areas, such as the brows or neck, to pull and tighten the skin.

Once the threads have been placed, the cannula is removed. The PDO thread is then cut and left beneath the skin. Immediately you’ll see a glow or lift in the treatment area. In total, the procedure typically takes no more than an hour.

Within two months, new collagen will form between the threads, which will further tighten and lift the skin. After 4-6 months, your skin will have fully absorbed the threads.

Who is eligible for the procedure?

The good news is that most patients are eligible for NovaThreads. If you suffer from skin laxity or a loss of skin volume, the PDO procedure can address the problem and give you a more youthful look.

Because the procedure doesn’t create scars, it’s safe for those with sensitive skin and is effective for every skin tone.

For best results, some patients combine the PDO facelift with injectables. For example, neurotoxins can be used to relax wrinkles or dermal fillers to add even more volume and plumpness. Resurfacing treatments, such as facials, can also improve results.

How long do results last?

PDO threads naturally dissolve in the body. However, results from the procedure last for another 9-12 months. In some patients, results can last for years! This all depends on your age as well as the condition of your skin.

Younger patients may see results for up to four years. On the other hand, those with poor skin volume and/or elasticity can expect results to last for up to two years.
